While still on the mountain, Moses learned from God of the Israelites' corruption. In addition to the sordid details, God also told him of his plans to destroy the people and start over. "Now leave me alone so that my anger may burn against them and that I may destroy them. Then I will make you into a great nation" (Ex. 32:10). Moses, however, chose to boldly pursue God's favor. In an incredible prayer, Moses reminded God of his reputation and his promises. Remarkably, the text tells us: "The LORD relented and did not bring on his people the disaster he had threatened" (v. 14).
